Written by Marc Guggenheim
Directed by Thor Freudenthal

Starring Logan Lerman, Alexandra Daddario and Brandon T. Jackson

PERCY JACKSON: THE SEA OF MONSTERS is the second in the franchise trilogy of the popular book series of the same name. However, this second instalment falls prey to the same failures of the previous movie, making this endeavour nothing more than a half pleasant time killer. PERCY JACKSON: THE LIGHTNING THEIF had a simplistic, minimal story, and featured some terrible CGI and some semi-decent action sequences. As far as sequels go, this one is just more of the same but the story is far more scattered.

When your movie is called THE SEA OF MONSTERS, the expectation is that the film will focus on the main characters, Percy (Logan Lerman), Annabeth (Alexandra Daddario) and Grover (Brandon T. Jackson), as they adventure to said Sea of Monsters. Instead of going that logical route though, the movie spends all of five wonderfully mediocre minutes in the Sea Of Monsters and focuses mainly on another location, the Golden Fleece. This is similar to the plot of the book but the manner in which this story is told, and shown in vividly horrific CGI, does not have enough depth to make anyone care about any of the characters or what happens to them. At the beginning of the movie, force fields protecting our heroes had fallen and I got excited thinking I might see an adrenaline-fueled, action flick. Instead, I received a poorly thrown together movie where nothing really happens.

Sea-of-Monsters

What PERCY JACKSON: SEA OF MONSTERS lacks in story, character, heart and passion, it surely does not make up for in entertainment value. Many people pass the time with movies but there are much better ways to do so than watching this film. My first suggestion would be reading the Percy Jackson books instead. At least then, you can use your own imagination, which would probably look better than this did.
